Marcaddy/Cablecaddy - Some FAQs
What different types of reels do you offer?
We offer a range of different retractable cable reel solutions, including power reels, grounding reels, data transmission cable reels and EV charging cable extension reels. We also offer balancers. In addition, we offer multi-socket Combi-Cubes, which are an extension to the cable reels, providing two or more sockets.
What is the difference between the various cable reel series?
We offer a range of different series – all with different properties. Your requirements will dictate which series is the most appropriate. The 9000 Series, for example, is a plastic-cased IP42 cable reel series with a maximum length of 7mm, and a maximum power rating of 1.9KW, whereas the 1700 Series is an aluminium steel cased cable reel with a maximum length of 55m, and a maximum power rating of 40KW (unwound).
So you offer cable reels in different IP ratings?
Yes. We offer cable reels in IP42, IP43 and IP65. In general terms, IP42 cable reels are suitable for indoor use, whereas IP65 cable reels are suitable for outdoor use or areas exposed to the elements. Our new 4000 Series offers a lower cost IP65 cable reel option. All EV charging cable extension reels are IP65.
What type of cable is available?
Cablecaddy can offer either PVC or rubber cable as a choice with many of our cable reels. Some of the cable are PVC only – please check the item listing.
What is the Combi-Cube?
The Combi-Cube is addition to the extension reels, which allows the reel to become multi-socket. We offer two or four socket versions, 110-230V, 13A and 16A. Combi-Cubes are popular in places such as universities and colleges, as a means of providing drop-down power which is there when needed, without the need for any trailing wires which could be a health and safety hazard. Combi-Cubes are used with a cable reel, they are not a standalone product.
Are you the manufacturer?
An Italian company, Zeca, manufacture most of the products – Cablecaddy is the distributor, and we sell under the brand name Marcaddy. Combi-Cubes are manufactured by us, at our site in Telford, Shropshire. Zeca can offer ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 certification. Ceenorm/Cablecaddy offers ISO9001 certification.

Cablecaddy Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ceenorm UK Ltd, a name well known in the UK for the supply of industrial plugs & sockets, custom-build distribution equipment and more. Ceenorm UK Ltd also owns Transpower Engineering, a low-voltage transformer manufacturer based in Greater Manchester.
Why do the EV charging cable extension reels have two different connector types?
All our EV charging cable extension reels have type 2 connectors for the wall connection. These connectors have 7 contacts and are the standard connection needed for the UK/Europe. The end of the cable which connects into the car will have either a type 1 or type 2 connector. Type 1 has 5 contacts. The connector type for the car will be dictated by the vehicle – type 1 is the standard for North American and Japanese vehicles, and type 2 for European vehicles.
What are specialist cable reels?
Our specialist cable reel range includes grounding reels, data cable reels for signal transmission, and grounding reels with explosion proof clips. Grounding cable reels are often uses for the elimination of electrostatic loads – explosion proof clips are sometimes needed in warehouses, aviation, refineries, naval settings and with tankers – while cable reels for data/signal transmission are ideal for robots and measurement systems and inspection, manufacturing & process control equipment, and packaging machines. Our data transmission cable reels use a special DataFlux collector, which guarantees a stable connection. Options include ethernet cabling. We can supply specialist cable reels in both IP42 and IP65, with range of cable lengths available.
What are grounding reels?
Grounding reels are sometimes known as earthing reels, automatic grounding reels, static discharge reels or static grounding reels. Grounding reels are supplied with a H05 V-F single core yellow-green cable, and are suitable for the elimination of electrostatic loads (eg. hydrocarbon transfer trucks, fuels, combustible materials etc). We can also supply grounding reels with explosion proof clips.
